SD Review 2024 – The 42nd Exhibition of Winning Architectural Drawings and Models was displayed last month at Hillside Terrace in Tokyo and now moves to the Kyoto Institute of Technology Museum and Archives. The Japan-Architects editors visited the exhibition in Tokyo and photographed the thirteen projects that were selected by the jury for the show.
The SD Review exhibition was created by architect Fumihiko Maki in 1982. Appropriately, the exhibition has been held every year since the Forum at Hillside Terrace, the primarily residential development that Maki realized in phases over the course of 25 years. The annual exhibition aims to show, through drawings and models, the process by which a designer a single, clear concept in the face of the realities of construction.
A display at the entrance to SD Review 2024 honors Fumihiko Maki, who died in June at the age of 95.
The exhibition is hosted by Kajima Publishing, which will publish the winning projects in a special issue of SD Monthly, as it does every year. The thirteen winning projects — selected by jury members Jun Aoki, Hideyuki Nakayama, Noriaki Yamada, and Chie Kaneno — can be seen on Kajima's website, in the exhibition photographs below, and with many more photographs on Japan-Architects.
Previous iterations documented by the Japan-Architects editors also include SD Review 2022, SD Review 2017, SD Review 2016, and SD Review 2015.
