Living in the monument
Schaan, Liechtenstein
The listed villa from the last century is being gently renovated inside and shared in its use. It is also complemented by a garden pavilion and a carport.
The simple formal language of the new building volumes is sub-delined with the historic villa from the last century and highlights its architectural value. Gentle interventions in the interior create a new use and divide the house into three zones. This creates two different residential units as well as the possibility of a self-sufficient studio. Where possible, only the surfaces are processed. In close cooperation with the preservation of monuments, solutions were found that do justice to the architecture of the villa.
The timelessly maintained outbuildings are discreetly embedded in the park. The pavilion expands the living space of the villa and creates a clear, generous view of the green area through its glass elements. The glass elements of the pavilion are also used inside, visually enlarge the living space and can be opened if necessary. Through the new use and the extensions, the villa will continue to secure its place in the history of Schaan in the future.
