The latest architecture-themed video from the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art's Louisiana Channel profiles Philip Beesley, an artist and designer known for forest-like sculptures and installations.
Although the first words spoken in this 12-minute film just posted to YouTube and other platforms are “I'm an architect,” Philip Beesley's most famous works are fashion: haute couture dresses done in collaboration with Iris van Herpen and worn by celebrities like Celine Dion. Viewers see some of these dresses about halfway through the video, after they have heard Beesley describe how he evolved his unique approach to design. Beesley sees space as “filamentary and continuously coupled with numerous lines, flights, influences, and interconnections,” he explains, resulting in lace-like sculptures such as Grove, installed at the Venice Biennale in 2021.
