Sketch to Structure, running from 31 January to 25 May 2015, displays about a hundred sketches, plans, renderings and models from the Heinz Architectural Center collection, fitting them into four sections: Concept, Collaboration, Communication, and Case Studies. A highlight of the last is the design process of Los Angeles architect Lorcan O'Herlihy's Formosa1140 project, documented through sketches, a study model and a presentation model. Although the end result of Formosa1140 can be seen in the early sketches shown here, exhibition curator Alyssum Skjeie, curatorial assistant at the Heinz Architectural Center, CMOA, asserts "that architectural design, from initial concept to client presentation, is anything but straightforward."
