The Sonnwendviertel education campus is the winning project of a competition that called for educational buildings to be rethought, taking into account the demands of modern pedagogy. The children will be mentored in a differentiated manner according to their individual needs. Project work and free learning make up the majority of lesson time. What, then, can the “third pedagogue”, the space, contribute here?
All day, all year round, the campus provides a home for 1100 children between 0 and 14 years of age. Groups of 100 children and their teachers live and learn in a cluster where 3-4 group or education rooms, a project room and a team room for teachers are situated around a market square that serves as common space for teaching, free time and working. The campus is a city inside a city where life is not simulated but rather lived.
New school tables, graphic and artistic design, theatre, a new evacuation concept, performative free space…
