On Klopstockstrasse in Zurich, a new building with 25 flats and a café was constructed as part of a successful study commission, which was occupied in 2024. Two entrance halls connect the neighbourhood street with the courtyard. On the ground floor, a level change within the flats creates a raised ground floor with living space facing the park. On each of the standard floors, which are organised as three-room apartments, a polygonal loggia folds out towards the ash trees along the street. Floor-to-ceiling windows open up the view to the greenery. The building by Meier Hug Architects blends almost unnoticed and yet naturally into the urban space. The breathable and well-insulated Porotherm single-shell masonry ensures a high quality of use and living for the residents. The sensitive integration into the existing landscape and urban context takes both aesthetic and functional requirements into account.
