The Architecture of Yoshio Taniguchi – Designing Tranquility and Plenitude

Yoshio Taniguchi, the architect and director emeritus of this museum of architecture, passed away on December 16 last year. He inherited from his father, Yoshiro Taniguchi, the aspiration to meditate on, that is, to cast an intellectual net over the land of Kanazawa, and his presence was enormously meaningful in making the spirituality of this town more salient. On this occasion, we have organized a special exhibition entitled “The Architecture of Yoshio Taniguchi: Designing Tranquility and Plenitude” with the aim of looking back on his architectural works and experiencing once more the new spaces he attempted to create in relationship to Kanazawa. We hope that you will get a sense of these works that incorporate both tradition and contemporaneity and read the message they convey to the town while recollecting his profoundly dignified stance. This is our expression of farewell to Yoshio Taniguchi who has passed on to that other world, for now one step ahead of the rest of us.
