The series, hosted by Frances Anderton, was inspired by the above photograph, an iconic portrait of seven young Los Angeles architects on Venice Beach, taken by Ave Pildas in 1980 for a story by Joseph Giovannini in Interiors magazine. Four of the seven architects and photographer Pildas sit down with Anderton in the first 11-minute episode. While their memories are hazy at times about that photography session 45 years ago, viewers learn a great deal about the circumstances around the photograph; about why a story on LA architects was made at the time, for instance, and why these seven architects were selected by Interiors editor in chief Beverly Russell. Befitting a gathering of architects, there's also a fair amount of critical analysis of the photograph itself. All in all, it's a promising start to the series.
