Dialogue with the forest: Murano Togo's design concept for the Yatsugatake Museum of Art

Togo Murano (1891–1984) was a leading Japanese architect who designed numerous renowned buildings. The Yatsugatake Art Museum, Murano’s final public art museum, opened in 1980 following a donation of sculptures by Takashi Shimizu, a native of Hara Village. In this exhibition, we present a curated selection of architectural materials—including models, design drawings, and photographs—focusing on the journey from pre-design concept sketches to actual construction, the intentions reflected in the design, and the changes the building has undergone to the present day.
