Estimated cost of the planned 191,000-square-foot (17,745 m2) courthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee—the first major new design announced by the US General Services Administration (GSA) since Donald Trump’s “Making Federal Architecture Beautiful Again” executive order—containing seven courtrooms and nine judges’ chambers: $160 million to $220 million
The new courthouse will replace the Joel W. Solomon Federal Building and US Courthouse, a 1930s building that inspired HOK's design. (Visualization courtesy of GSA)
The above cost estimate is based on the GSA's allocation of 0.5% of estimated construction costs for art commissions: “The art budget for this project is estimated to be,” per a GSA contract opportunity, “between $800,000 to $1,100,000.” (Visualization courtesy of GSA)
