Gazebo in Izumo
Izumo-city, Shimane, Japan
This building is located in the "center" of a small village where builders' model homes are gathered.
Even within the limited site,
we designed the layout and form so that your line of sight changes as you walk,
and the scale changes as you approach,
creating a sense of natural three-dimensionality in the space.
Rather than making an overly assertive statement,
we aim for the building to resonate with the surrounding houses and the movements of people,
creating a place that makes you want to enter and feel like you can be here.
This is architecture that we want you to walk through, stop,
and experience with your body.
From the initial sketches,
we developed the concept with the landscape in mind.
