CS Research Station
Kharkiv region, Ukraine
The CS Research Station is an architectural research ensemble composed of interconnected underground buildings. The project reactivates the scientific and IT legacy of theKharkiv region through a contemporary spatial and programmatic design.
At ground level, the station functions as a digital library, research archive, and public concourse. Its core is defined by a unique structural system: four horizontal chains of inverted concrete arches that generate both the building’s form and its spatial organisation. The interstitial spaces between the arches accommodate a sequence of open and enclosed programs, operating independently according to temporal and functional demands while maintaining constant structural parameters.
Public spaces are articulated as inter-arcades, squares, reading rooms, conference halls, and walkways. Extending beyond conventional urban typologies, the project promotes ecological regulation, slow mobility, and ethical cultural practices, culminating in a central interior light space that anchors the ensemble.
