After Rio (2021), Seoul (2017), Durban (2014) and Tokyo (2011), the International Union of Architects (UIA) is holding its World Congress in the city of Copenhagen from July 2 to 6, 2023.
With the theme “Sustainable Futures - Leave No One Behind,” the 2023 Congress will reflect on the potential of architecture as a tool for achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The UIA World Congresses are key events for professional exchange between architects from all over the world, held every three years since 1948 and gathering thousands of participants; more than 10,000 people are expected to participate in the 2023 edition.
The UIA Nordic Section, composed of Denmark, Finland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, won the 2023 bid. It will be the first time that the Congress will be held in a Nordic country. The UIA World Congress takes place in Copenhagen, which was also named UIA World Capital of Architecture by UNESCO in 2023. The entire city will become a stage full of events to celebrate sustainable urban development, culminating with the UIA World Congress at the Bella Center Copenhagen in July.
