In the course of the rapid population growth of Neu Wulmstorf, the previous elementary school on the moor was replaced by a new building on a site opposite. The school follows the modern teaching concept of "mini-schools".
The new building was constructed using a system construction method, which led to an accelerated construction time for the shell. The structure of the building is divided into three areas: Classrooms, event area and sports hall, with each area having a different floor level.
The exterior design of the building is characterized by projections and recesses as well as coloured elements. This creates public squares and courtyards that serve as extended teaching and break areas. The façade of light beige clinker brick with yellow and green accents gives the building an inviting appearance.
The entrance area can accommodate up to 450 visitors and is used both as an arrival area and as an event space. A mobile partition wall allows the room size to be flexibly adjusted as required. Barrier-free access and communicative staircase elements promote inclusion on all levels.
Each of the mini-schools, each comprising a class from 1 to 4, has its own classrooms and common rooms as well as direct access to outdoor areas and a school garden. This pedagogical concept promotes learning in small units and facilitates mentoring between pupils of different ages. The combination of indoor and outdoor spaces and the well thought-out architectural design support the implementation of this concept and create an inspiring learning environment for everyone involved.
