Exhibited in the Chikuin-no-Ma room at Kondaya Genbei, a renowned purveyor of obi sashes for more than 280 years in the Muromachi kimono merchant district, Hong Kong photographer Wing Shya’s lyrical images match the surroundings perfectly. Rich in narrative and deep with impressionistic shadow, his works wrap around the viewer like an obi, all the more profoundly in the refined machiya interior, creating a sensuous gleam of vision amidst dark reveries. Such a sense of unity through the pairing of artworks and the venue can only be experienced here.
