Kyonan-machi, Chiba, Japan
In April 2021, our proposal was selected for the “Development of the area around the urban community facilities in Kyonan town”. The proposal with a design process based on "collaboration with the local community" by setting up a local base to engage with the residents, as well as the clear design concept and well-resolved attentive design approach was highly evaluated.
The circular colonnade, “Wakka”, running around the site harmonizes with the surrounding mountain and landscape. The space is characterized by a simple and clear structure composition. Furthermore, as the aim of the project is to strengthen the functions of the urban community facility, the design takes into account the visual unity and continuity with the "Michi-no-eki (Roadside Station) Hota Elementary School". Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2022 and complete in September 2023, with a scheduled opening in October 2023.
