House Rauracherweg
Hofstetten, Switzerland
This detached house with a garage and pool is situated on the southern slope of Hofstetten. Access is from the ground floor, where the entrance, garage, and basement rooms are located on the hillside. The fitness and guest areas on the ground floor are illuminated by a north-facing courtyard, while the kitchen, dining, and living areas open to the south with generous glazing, offering views of the patio and garden. The upper floor is functionally divided into a west wing with two bedrooms and a shower, and an east wing with a bedroom, dressing room, and bathroom.
The superimposition of the H-shaped upper floor and the U-shaped ground floor gives the building a sculptural appearance, characterized by controlled setbacks and cantilevers. At the centre, within the overlap of the two forms, lies the stairwell, forming part of the core and distinguished from the other spaces by its materials and colour scheme. The facades are closed to the east and west, allowing the building to integrate seamlessly into the rising terrain. To the south and north, facing the elongated plot, the volume opens up to the variously designed outdoor spaces, including seating areas, terraces, and a courtyard. The "hard" exterior shell on the east and west, as well as the ceiling edges, are constructed from exposed concrete, formed with rough-sawn horizontal boards. The "soft" separation from the exterior spaces consists of wood-metal windows and matching metal facade cladding.
