Gardener's Lodging in the Schweizergarten

Sustainable building is not only a necessity but also a creative opportunity—an architecture guided by the principles of the circular economy that simultaneously offers a durable solution for public spaces.
The planning study for the new gardeners’ quarters in Schweizergarten focuses on sustainability and material-appropriate construction methods. Inspired by the quality and ecological benefits of earthen construction, the building was designed as a reversible structure—thereby keeping the environmental impact minimal and allowing the structure to be returned to the natural cycle if necessary.
In addition, the building naturally regulates the indoor climate and conveys a warm, earthy ambiance.
The design responds sensitively to the park setting and creates a functional yet atmospheric work environment using simple means. It does not form a hard boundary but blends into the natural surroundings with open transitions and a well-thought-out outdoor space concept.
