Ritter Schumacher Architektur is using the site of a former painter's workshop in the immediate vicinity of Chur railway station to create a high-quality densification of the neighbourhood. The elongated volume of the new building blends unpretentiously into its mature surroundings. The building houses seven barrier-free apartments with generous windows and south- or west-facing balconies. The architects have chosen a modern form of expression that nevertheless responds appropriately to the existing buildings. The façade, clad with Urban T Frederiksberg, makes the apartment building appear less imposing, and the reduced design language is enhanced by a playful aspect. The materialisation of the façade, the connection to the district heating network and a photovoltaic system convey a consistent approach to sustainable construction.
