Conversion Strengigartenweg
The house on Strengigartenweg, built in 1959, is characterized by a striking attic. The base and first floor are of solid construction, while the attic is of wooden construction, well distinguishable from the outside by an exterior cladding of fiber cement panels in the gable area. Over the years, the garage in the basement has been converted into a room, a bicycle shelter with a large canopy has been added, and the living room facing the garden has been enlarged. Precisely placed ribbon windows and the lack of a roof projection give the building a modern appearance and refer to models of New Building.
Themes and elements of classical modernism can also be found in the interior. The centerpiece is the exposed brick wall running through all floors, with a wonderfully filigree staircase construction. Despite all the necessary reconstruction measures, it was possible to preserve these contemporary elements and restore them with great care. Some specific spatial interventions on the first floor, such as the opening of the kitchen, the relocation of the bathroom to the room level and the additional box window on the west facade, create a surprising generosity.
An additional bathroom and the dormer on the east side significantly increase the living quality in the attic. The necessary energy-related renovation measures are limited to the wooden part of the building and include insulation of the roof as well as the gable facades. The reduced design of the renovated surfaces with consistent use of materials across the floors emphasizes the preserved original components even more.
