Finalists for 2019 YAP Announced

The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1 have announced the five finalists for the 2019 Young Architects Program (YAP), the annual program that offers "emerging architectural talent" the chance to build a summer-long installation in the courtyard of MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, Queens.
The annual installations are meant to provide shade, seating, and a cooling water feature for visitors to MoMA PS1, particularly the revelers at the institution's Warm Up music series held on Saturday's in the summer.
The five finalists were drawn from a list of around 50 firms "comprised of recent architectural school graduates, junior faculty, and architects experimenting with new styles or techniques." MoMA's Glenn Lowry and Martino Stierli, along with Yolande Daniels of Studio SUMO, served on the panel that selected the finalists:
- Low Design Office (LOWDO): DK Osseo-Asare, State College, Pennsylvania
- Matter Design: Brandon Clifford, Wes McGee and Johanna Lobdell, Boston
- Pedro & Juana: Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo and Mecky Reuss, Mexico City
- Oana Stănescu & Akane Moriyama, New York
- TO: Carlos Facio and Jose G. Amozurrutia, Mexico City
The winner of the 2019 YAP is expected to be announced early next year.
