On the occasion of the Making Africa exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum, architect Diébédo Francis Kéré has designed and installed a pop-up store for Camper within the Buckminster Fuller Dome on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany.
Kéré's design utlizes a flexible presentation system from Vitra that is organized into two concentric structures with ovoid footprints. This plan creates three zones: the outer zone is where visitors learn about Camper shoes (even watching one be made by hand); the middle zone is a covered walkway between the structures; and the inner zone is a central space open to the dome above, where people can try on shoes from the 2015-16 line. Therefore the temporary shop is part education, part retail, the latter ambitiously envisioned as "a platform for experimenting with new retail concepts, which aim to make shopping a true experience and strengthen the relationship between the brand and its customers," according to a Vitra statement.
The Camper pop-up store will be on display until 30 September 2015.
