From Fish Farm to 'Gary's Place'
Design Will Save The World visits Gary's Place, the 235-acre property in Silay, Philippines, that architect Edward “Ed” Ledesma has turned from a working fish pond into a forested landscape with casitas for his family and an event center for weddings and concerts.
The name Gary's Place refers to Ledesma's late son, who had lived on the property like his other siblings. This we learn from Ledesma, who speaks on camera about Gary's Place and takes viewers to the different casitas and other structures built on the site across the film's sixteen minutes. Coming to the fore are the way the buildings “become part of the site itself,” as Ledesma explains, and how the casitas are all “quite very simple,” a trait he recommends to architects and students of architecture.
