Inheritance

The site presents a complex shape, with its eastern side facing a curved road and the remainder surrounded by neighbouring residences, further accentuated by a difference in elevation from the surroundings. The building's placement follows the footprint of the former traditional Japanese-style residence, preserving the expansive feel of the previous garden. This approach consciously honours the site's history despite the reconstruction. The new garden features skilfully arranged natural-form trees and plants, offering a refreshing space where local residents can continue to enjoy the changing seasons.
An Nanjamonja tree, revered as a sacred tree, stands at the entrance. Passing through the vertical lattice gate, visitors are greeted by a gently undulating garden where greenery flows seamlessly, and a gentle approach staircase.The ground floor centres around the entrance hall, private rooms, and wet areas. The entrance hall is designed around an axis connecting the east and west greenery, while also creating a space with north-south openness. The staircase connecting the upper and lower floors is positioned at the intersection of this axis.
The second floor unfolds as an open, integrated space comprising the living room, dining area, kitchen, and east-west terraces. The terrace walls are raised to block surrounding views, creating an entirely private, family-only urban resort space – an open, pleasant environment. Adjacent to this large space, a tranquil Japanese-style room connects to a courtyard at the rear.
