Lighting design for a Ryokan, Japanese inn.

In very small secluded hot spring in Yamagata , Ginzan-Onsen flourished in 1600 for their silver mines. Now hardly any trace of mines except fine quality of mineral contained hot spring. The resort was built in Taisho style architecture with some western influence yet had strong image of traditional Japanese architecture. Architect Kuma was asked to renew one of the most important Inn in the area to receive guests not only from Japan, but from abroad as well. Kuma came out with very interesting design with manipulating Japanese traditional vocabulary overlaying with lighting which is very unique in Ryokan lighting.
