Groundwork Architecture and Urbanism
Founded in London in 2007 by Manfred Yuen and Stephen Suen, Groundwork began as an experimental practice before establishing its Hong Kong headquarters in 2011. The firm has since gained international acclaim for its socially-driven initiatives, ranging from the preservation of Hong Kong’s iconic hawker culture to advising on "Child-Friendly City" urban developments in Shenzhen.
Following the partnerships of CY Lau (2015) and Jing Bao (2019), the group expanded into Mainland China, adopting a "Total Design" philosophy. Now consolidated as of 2025, Groundwork Group operates across four specialized pillars: Architecture, High-End Interiors, Commercial Strategy, and the Softspace art wing.
Groundwork seamlessly integrates AI, 3D printing, and big data into its creative process. Its polymath designers bridge the gap between avant-garde aesthetics and rigorous project management, ensuring every venture balances cultural heritage with technical innovation. Their work has been exhibited globally at prestigious venues, including the Venice Biennale and the UABB, consistently redefining the boundaries between art and urbanism.
In 2019 and 2025, Manfred Yuen was invited to deliver TEDx talks in Shenzhen, where he advocated for the evolving social responsibilities of artists and architects in the 21st century.
