Facebook has released a short film about the newest building on its campus in Menlo Park, California. MPK 21, as it's called, was designed by Frank Gehry and is connected to his earlier MPK 20.
As Gehry explains early in the film, the "lessons in Facebook culture" that he learned working on MPK 20 (completed in 2015) prepared him and is colleagues for MPK 21. Likewise, Facebook's John Tenanes describes the new building as "a natural evolution" of how Facebook operates within its buildings. Formally, building 21 appends itself to 20, in effect making one huge building. At their core is "The Bowl," a green space that Tenanes likens to a botanical garden and is clearly visible in the aerial above.
Although any promotional film needs to be watched skeptically, this one does afford some great glimpses into the Facebook-Gehry collaboration, here accompanied by some photographs.
