Zaha Hadid Architects has been selected in an international competition to design the new headquarters for smartphone manufacturer OPPO in Shenzhen, China.
ZHA bested BIG, Henning Larsen Architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, and SOM with a bulbous, super-smooth design of four interconnected glass towers. Two towers will provide open-plan office spaces, while the other two will be devoted to vertical circulation and services, the latter allowing for atrium spaces throughout. The tallest tower will have 42 floors, reach a height of 200 meters (656 feet), and be topped by a public "Sky Lab" with views of the surrounding city of 12 million people. The building, located near Shenzhen Bay in the city's Nanshan district, will total 185,000 square meters (1.99 million sf). Construction is planned to start later this year with a target completion of 2025.
