Twice the size of New York City's Central Park, Orange County California's Great Park will bring over 1,400 acres of urban parkland to the city of Irvine and the surrounding region. Planned on the former site of El Toro Air Force base, this large track of undeveloped land is situated between the Santa Ana Hills to the East and the Laguna Hills to the West.
The main feature of the Great Park will be a man-made canyon which runs through the park and will support a diverse range of active and passive programs while creating a new topography complemented by a river in its base.
The main architectonic interventions consist of a series of programmatic bridges, a Communitarian Center, a Museum of Aviation, diverse cultural institutions and a series of multifunctional pavilions.
