The award-winning design exemplifies a new architectural language, representing the emergence of new contemporary architecture in the Gulf.

Surrounded by a landscape rich in archaeological remains, the site presents a unique opportunity to design a building that strengthens the relationship between visitor and heritage, enhancing engagement and interaction with the surroundings.

The Aga Khan nominated Centre is sensitively integrated within its historic context, an area under consideration for designation as a World Heritage Site. The most compelling elements of the setting include a Bronze Age Tomb, the dramatic Fossil Rock, and Hajar mountains, which serve as the primary points of reference, inspiring the architectural response.

The building’s form and geometry are carefully generated around the Tomb as the focal point. This spatial strategy creates a layered and meaningful approach, enriching the visitor’s journey to both the Tomb and the Visitor Centre, while reinforcing the site’s cultural and experiential significance.
