The award-winning Crown Fountain at Millennium Park was conceived as a 21st century fountain as an interactive public sculpture in a new urban square. It highlights the elemental and sensual qualities of water, light and place. The challenge of the collaboration between Krueck+Sexton and Jaume Plensa lay in successfully interpreting the artistic vision, identifying new materials and technologies, and assembling them in a way that would allow the fountain to flourish. The integrated design is the result of a successful collaboration of engineers and artisans.

We consider this public project a seminal work of our practice. As a place where joy reigns, Crown Fountain reaffirms the power of architecture and art to improve and to inspire life.
