Waterside Villa House
Osaka, Japan
Healing resort in the city
This is a renovation project to transform a wooden house in a quiet residential area into a resort space surrounded by a water basin. The difference in level between the garden and the interior floor is large as a characteristic of the wooden structure. After considering details to prevent surface water problems from the interior when a water basin is normally created in the garden, the terrace surface and the water surface were raised to the level of the first floor floor and made to appear as an extension of the first floor floor. The aim was to block reflected sunlight and create an effect where the shadows under the eaves extend the interior to the exterior. To connect the two, we fabricated two 50-square-foot deep-jointed tiles to create a tiled wall surrounding the garden from the neighbor's boundary, invading the interior with a similar wall surface. The chandelier, which was located in the dining room before the renovation, was relocated to the landing of the stairwell, which is visible from the dining room, so that the chandelier can be seen from the second floor. The result is a residence where the extraordinary, like a hotel, can be enjoyed as an everyday life.
