Envisioned as a symbolic focal point for modern Oslo, VIA serves as an indoctrination of Oslo for future generations to relish. The 58,000 square-metre development combines exclu-sive mixed retail with high-end offices and commercial and parking facilities, cultivating a lively urban quarter. Interpreting the surrounding volume's characteristics and heights, the architectural expression of VIA adds a unique component to Oslo's city centre while still rec-ognizing and assimilating to its surroundings.
From the outside, VIA appears as a tight sculpture integrated into the city's street profile and adapted to the site's varying scales. The design prioritized enhanced integration between the building and the city by introducing an entrance square and the inner courtyard. These new areas create a shortcut through the block, establishing new pathways and experiences.
