The Alpina Gstaad - Salt Room
Gstaad, Switzerland
Salt. Stone. Stillness. – A New Space for Inner Balance.
The Alpina Gstaad – An Icon of Mindful Luxury in the Swiss Alps
The Alpina Gstaad is far more than a five-star luxury hotel – it is a symbol of sophisticated, conscious travel and contemporary alpine living. Nestled in the pristine beauty of the Bernese Alps, this eco-friendly retreat blends traditional Swiss craftsmanship with state-of-the-art infras- tructure and forward-thinking service. Sustaina- bility and innovation form the core of the hotel’s philosophy. Local materials and products are se- amlessly integrated, shaping the elegant, modern interpretation of Alpine chic for which The Alpina Gstaad is renowned far beyond the region.
In line with this philosophy, a truly special retreat has been created: the new salt room in the hotel‘s spa area.
At the heart of the design concept lies the power- ful impact of natural materials. Particularly stri- king are the backlit salt stone walls, which emit a gentle, mineral glow that adds a soothing depth to the space. The reclaimed wood ceiling introdu- ces a sense of alpine authenticity, while a circular “Tunable White” lighting feature simulates the natural rhythm of daylight – subtly supporting inner balance and well-being.
A technical highlight is the new ultrasonic salt nebuli- zer. It gently disperses ultra-fine salt particles without the use of heat, allowing the valuable minerals to be absorbed in their purest form. This modern form of halotherapy can strengthen the respiratory system, soothe the skin, and enhance overall well-being.
Comfortable loungers invite guests to linger. The thoughtfully designed proportions of the room create a harmonious sense of both intimacy and spaciousness – a composition of light, form, and material that allows body and mind to come to rest.
The project was realized by Julian Gross and Claudia Lasaroff of Atelier Julian & Lasaroff, experts in salt stone architecture, in collaboration with the St. Gallen-based architecture studio cocc. and coherent AG.
