The Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz / Platz der Friedlichen Revolution station is one of 4 suburban railway stations in the new Leipzig City Tunnel. In the platform hall, which references Leipzig’s Mädler Passage, the defining feature is the cladding deployed on the walls and ceiling, which is made of backlit prefabricated glass brick components. The seemingly endless repetition of the same component throughout the slightly curved, light-filled hall underscores the vast dimensions of this space. Along the central platform the station furniture is arranged like geometrical concrete sculptures. At the station heads, the stairs flow seamlessly into the platform, creating a single long strip. Echoing the station hall, the ancillary buildings above ground also feature glass bricks, which conjure up a sense of vitality in the square when they are illuminated at night.
