The property is situated in an attractive location on the Hönggerberg with a view over the city and the mountains. The single-family home there was to be replaced by a prestigious building with four owner-occupied apartments. The new building is precisely integrated into the topography and is buckled to assume the scale of the location. Despite the high density, the new interpretation succeeds in expressing the theme of a residential building in a private garden: the apartments combine the ideals of a single-family home – privacy and a reference to the garden – with those of a multi-storey urban apartment.
In all apartments, a basic floor plan type that clearly distinguishes between public and private areas is formulated in different ways. The differentiated floor plans were developed with individual qualities according to the varying spatial geometries, the view and the placement of the private exteriors, as well as the reference to the garden. Thematically, the apartment building, with its precisely determined spaces and movement figures, picks up on the diversity of post-war bourgeois residential culture.
