Residential Building Aue
Therwil, Switzerland
The residential building near the center of Therwil contains ten apartments spread across two full floors and an attic floor. The chosen form, with its staggered shape and two angled long sides, integrates well into the surroundings and creates two versatile, well-proportioned outdoor spaces. The widening of the building volume towards the south defines its boundary with the two existing streets. The central stairwell with elevator is accessible from two sides and connects the two outdoor areas.
Thanks to the clever positioning of the building, all apartments are oriented on at least two sides. They are characterized by a "promenade architecturale", where the corridors widen into spacious rooms. The central element is the covered outdoor area, around which the dining, living, and kitchen areas are arranged on the ground and first floors. This creates interesting visual connections and interweavings between interior and exterior spaces. On the top floor, however, the terraces are located at the end of the "promenade," and a room replaces the interior loggia. Natural light also enters the kitchens from above via the roof.
Suspended, floor-to-ceiling sliding elements, as well as fixed expanded metal elements, provide sun protection and fall protection. Depending on the specific requirements, the elements are designed to be more or less transparent. Together with the floor-to-ceiling, flush-mounted windows and the ceiling trim, they emphasize the horizontal appearance of the building.
