One floor instead of two — yet with more openness, experience and comfort. Inspired by the region’s tradition of straw craftsmanship, natural materials, warm tones and sustainable solutions shape the new spatial atmosphere. At the same time, former bank office areas were transformed into apartments — compact and thoughtfully designed, a showcase of contemporary, space-efficient interior architecture.

Raiffeisenbank Mutschellen has completely modernised and renewed its Berikon branch. Responsible for both architecture and interior design, we developed a concept that bridges regional tradition with contemporary banking architecture. Inspired by the heritage of local straw processing, the design is defined by natural materials, warm colours and sustainable solutions. Although the branch now operates on a single floor, intelligent planning created a welcoming environment that conveys openness and enhances customer orientation. Sustainability is reflected not only in the selection of materials and the renovation of the façade but also in the adaptive reuse of space: former bank offices were converted into apartments — an exemplary model of efficient space utilisation and future-ready, small-scale densification.

Interior design: Inspired by regional straw craftsmanship
The interior design concept is deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the Berikon region. In the 19th century, the area was a major centre of straw craftsmanship. This historical legacy flows directly into the design concept: natural materials such as straw and wood, combined with warm tones, create an authentic and inviting atmosphere that links regional tradition with contemporary banking design.

Modern, compact customer zone with a welcoming feel
The aim was to create a compact, secure and at the same time inviting branch. In addition to a remarkably short construction period of just 4.5 months, the design embeds both craftsmanship and the surrounding Mutschellen landscape into the architecture and interiors. The result is a place that fosters closeness where employees and clients feel equally comfortable.

Conclusion: Banking architecture with identity and vision
The renovation of Raiffeisenbank Mutschellen in Berikon shows how regional tradition, sustainable construction and contemporary interior architecture can be woven into a harmonious whole. The interior design reflects both Raiffeisen’s values and the aspirations of modern architecture — creating a space that radiates trust, regional identity and forward-looking confidence.
