Awakening and emergence with Finnish design

Nineteen Finnish fashion, furniture, lighting and accessory brands are on display on the prestigious second floor of GLINT – one of the last relatively untouched Wilhelminian-era buildings in Berlin Mitte.
Working in dialogue with the unpolished charm and fine architectural details of this period ensemble, the exhibition shows off the great diversity in modern Finnish design and invites visitors to embark on an exciting and surprising journey of discovery.

The magnificent staircase with decorative tiling and a wooden staircase with wrought-iron railing leads up to the ‘noble floor’, where the upper class would reside and enjoy their bourgeois comforts. The ceilings are almost four metres in height, conveying a sense of generosity and space. Unobstructed lines of sight connect the rooms, while each one is individually staged to uniquely bring the exhibited products to life.

Innovative Finnish design meets face to face with traces of the past. Extravagant fashion, handwoven carpets, and modern lamps are combined with nostalgic wallpaper, old overlapping layers of walls, and faded colours. This temporary exhibition captures the moment and spirit of an adventurous encounter between past and an emergent future.
