An existing office building had to be converted to a 50 bedded hospital for Joint Replacement Surgery. All patients were using the hospital for either hip or knee replacements and it was paramount to keep the floor levels the same for all the washrooms. A stretcher elevator had to be inserted along with Intensive Care facilities, pre and post operative and four state of the art operation theatres. The building is located at Pune’s busiest and noisiest intersections and the building had to acoustically seal itself off from the outside to facilitate healing and recovery. The faced was spruced up with vertical glass fins that enabled light to penetrate into the building yet helped cover some of the services that had to be accommodated on the outside of the building.
