Houses Im Autal

Two houses have been built in place of the existing property, forming a cohesive ensemble at the edge of the In der Au recreational area. Positioned perpendicular to the slope, the buildings offer unobstructed views of nature and blend subtly into the landscape. Their consistent south-facing orientation optimizes the use of the hillside location, providing natural light to all three floors. The classically modern architecture, with its large openings, clear spatial divisions, and fluid transitions, creates a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors. The corner opening on the living floor, facing southwest, reinforces the core design concept.
The houses are accessible from both above, via Inzlingerstrasse, and below, via the path In der Au. The ground floor features a spacious room with a ribbon window and a bathroom. A single-flight staircase leads to the loft-like ground floor. The kitchen, dining room, and living room are combined into one large open space. The living area is accentuated by a ledge that follows the contours of the land and a distinctive extra-high ceiling. Open steps, suspended between the walls and allowing light to filter down to the staircase below, lead to the upper floor. In addition to two bedrooms and a separate bathroom, the master bedroom, located at the head of the house, with its open dressing room, shower, and adjoining loggia, offers comfortable living with a view.
The simple exterior cladding, featuring clinker bricks that extend over the existing garage, emphasizes the volumetric appearance of the precisely proportioned buildings. The houses are equipped with controlled ventilation systems, rooftop photovoltaic panels, and are heated by an air-to-water heat pump.
