The new technology centre, situated directly on the river Spree in Berlin-Spandau, combines research, office and laboratory facilities. Within its premises, technologies for washing machines and tumble dryers are developed by a staff of up to 750 people.
The complex functional interconnections and required flexibility are translated into a distinctive, characteristic architecture.
The building is subdivided into a central seven-story main body with test rig and laboratory areas and six adjoining, six-storey office modules with flexible usage.
The dimension of the building (105 m x 85 m) is deliberately broken down to a comfortable scale through its structure, the vertical separation and its dynamic curves.
Oriented towards the river Spree and of significant appearance, a generously glazed eastern facade covering six floors particularly contributes to forming the building’s identity. The ground floor cafeteria with an outdoor terrace overlooking the water is located at its base.
The building is to be evaluated for a bronze DGNB Certificate (German Sustainable Building Council).
