65 subsidised and privately financed flats

A new housing development fronts the main road in Koblach, opening onto a square — the Kutzner Plätzle — that marks the entrance to the car-free estate. As the lively centre of the neighbourhood, it acts as a threshold between public and private space. Communal facilities are located around the square, and the daycare centre is also accessed from here. Clear, compact building forms enable generous open spaces; their arrangement creates intermediate zones with flowing transitions and buffer areas at the entrances. The adjacent forest, with cycle path and natural play areas, extends the green heart of the development. The five buildings are constructed using a hybrid construction: the subsidised buildings with prefabricated timber elements and timber cladding, the privately financed ones in monolithic brick with a plaster finish.
