Conversion Parish Center
The former 19th-century farmhouse, with its eastern facade directly adjacent to the historic church wall, provides ideal conditions for expanding the church grounds into a parish centre. The building program includes a 90 m² parish hall with a kitchen and storage room, a meeting room, facilities for the youth group Jubla, offices, and an apartment.
The solid structure, built in the mid-20th century on the site of the former farmhouse, had to be demolished. In its new form, it provides space for the hall at the level of the church square and additional larger rooms on the ground floor. The new glass and wood facade is designed to emphasize the original division of the building into residential and agricultural sections. In the former residential building, the floor heights have been raised to contemporary dimensions, while the original facade design has been largely preserved. In consultation with the cantonal heritage preservation authorities, it was possible to open the hall to the church square through the historic church wall. The copper-framed opening that pierces the wall is a recurring feature at all new openings around the building.
The building's uses are clearly distributed: small, private spaces (offices and apartments) are located in the original residential building, while large, public spaces (multipurpose room, youth group room, and hall) are in the new agricultural section. The stairwell is positioned at the intersection of the two building sections and provides access to all areas.
The interior materials are also designed to reinforce the division into residential and agricultural sections. Traditional oak parquet floors and white plaster walls in the former residential building contrast with hard concrete floors, rough lime plaster, and plywood surfaces in the former barn section.
