6th LafargeHolcim Awards Underway
John Hill
12. June 2019
The LafargeHolcim Foundation has launched the 6th cycle of the $2 million Lafarge Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction, which seeks leading projects and bold ideas "that combine sustainable construction solutions with architectural excellence."
One of the most significant competitions for sustainable design in the world, the triennial LafargeHolcim Awards are now open for projects in architecture, building and civil engineering, landscape and urban design, and other relevant areas. Projects will be judged on how well they contribute to the five "target issues"* for sustainable construction developed by the Foundation. As in the five previous LafargeHolcim Awards, juries will evaluate and rank the respective entries in five regions: Europe, North America, Latin America, Middle East Africa, and Asia Pacific. Regional winners from 2020 will then go on to compete for the Global LafargeHolcim Awards in 2021.
The main category is open to projects that have reached an advanced stage of design but have not started construction/fabrication before the first of January, 2019; there is no age restriction for authors in this category. A special Next Generation category is open to participants up to the age of 30 years (born after June 4, 1988) who have "visionary design concepts and bold ideas" that also have reached an advanced stage of design.
Submission deadline is February 25, 2020. More information can be found in our Agenda listing and on the LafargeHolcim Foundation website. See the winners of the 5th cycle of the Global Holcim Awards here.
