A new approach to an old craft, born from two styles of traditional gold-leaf artistry.
In Kanazawa, gold leaf is pounded into extremely thin sheets with outstanding luster and color.
In Nishijin, gold and silver leaf are applied to washi paper, which is then cut into thread-like strips that are woven into the ornate textiles for which the district is famous.
Ikuta brings together these two proud traditions in Hanagraphic, an innovative series of art pieces made by applying gold leaf to blocks of wood.
