Gargash Mosque

Dabbagh Architects was commissioned as the Lead Consultant to design a contemporary mosque that would offer a serene and spiritually uplifting space for the communities of Al Quoz and Al Barsha. The client’s brief called for a minimal, contemplative environment that honors the memory of the late Mohammed Abdulkhaliq Gargash, while serving as a meaningful place of worship gifted to the public.

The architectural concept was to create a transition from daily life into a peaceful state of worship. This is achieved through controlled natural light, refined materiality, and a form language distilled from traditional Islamic typologies. The mosque incorporates essential elements: a main prayer hall, a minbar oriented toward Mecca, a dome, and a minaret reinterpreted with contextual sensitivity and simplicity in mind.

Functional spaces were consolidated into a unified volume: prayer areas for men and women, ablution spaces, and accommodation for the Imam and Moazen. A courtyard emerges between the prayer and service blocks, anchored by a sculptural canopy featuring a deconstructed geometric pattern that filters sunlight and creates an outdoor prayer space during peak seasons such as Ramadan.

A double-skin dome allows light to enter softly through its internal patterned layer, maintaining a meditative atmosphere suitable for prayer and reflection.
