Kennedy & Violich Architecture (KVA Matx) is recognized for innovation in architectural design and applied research on renewable materials in the built environment. Led by Principals Sheila Kennedy, FAIA and Juan Frano Violich, FAIA, the firm provides full professional services in architectural design, concept planning and programming and prototyping.
With two decades of professional experience, KVA designs facilities for research and innovation in the Arts and Sciences for leading universities and organizations, focusing on architecture that supports forward looking teaching, learning, and collaboration. KVA’s body of work includes projects for Brown University, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, RISD, Wellesley College, Hamilton College, and Colorado College.
KVA’s material research unit Matx, led by Sheila Kennedy, FAIA and the KVA team has created a new model for professional practice that supports innovation through design research. KVA is a strategic think and do firm that advances scalable resilient design, with public sector and clean energy projects in ten countries including Brazil, Australia, Germany, France, India, Tajikistan, Mexico and the United States.
KVA integrates design and computation with in-house prototyping workshops. Our collaborative design process navigates the challenges of innovation, expands the use of low carbon materials in architecture and brings people together to realize a common goal.
