The Climatorium is intended to serve as a forum for knowledge, education, innovation and development; it will host exhibitions, conferences, concerts and other events for locals, tourists and visiting climate experts. The goal, per a press release on the competition win, is to "support Denmark’s role as an exporter of climate solutions and help establish Lemvig and the Central Denmark Region as a center of climate change adaptation."

Jan Ammundsen of 3XN explains: "We have aimed to create a building that tells a story about climate. The building has a rectilinear, stringent expression but forms a wave shape that lends a distinct and easily understood identity. The wave tells the story of the site and also refers to the serious challenges we face as a result of climate change."

The wave is visible in the two renderings here: it forms a small seating area on the exterior and pushes itself into the double-height space on the inside. The form of the wave and the use of wood throughout the building were inspired by the area's cultural history and the construction of fishing boats.

The building is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
