Queensland Museum Refurbishment
On a limited budget, this project’s prosaic aim was to upgrade movement routes and amenities for compliance. However, the opportunity was taken to insert a new materiality that strengthens and enriches the journey without diminishing the existing Robin Gibson architecture. Previously dour spaces, like a tunnel alongside the museum, are now bathed in sunlight. Coupled with a new restaurant and museum shop, the project has resulted in an over 60% increase in visitation this year despite closure for three months of construction.
